APEC CTF PARTICIPATES IN APEC PPSTI 25 MEETING, APEC 2025 KOREA

APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF) and Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), participated in the 25th APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) meeting held from February 24-26, 2025, in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

During this meeting, APEC CTF, led by Associate Professor Wongkot Wongsapai, Senior Strategist at APEC CTF and Vice President of NXPO, shared case study of Thailand’s emerging technologies in the Policy Dialogue on Emerging Technology session, titled “Implications for Emerging Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges in the Era of Disruption.” The session focused on proposing policies to support the implementation of emerging technologies, such as AI and other sustainable technologies, which have significant impacts on the economy, society, the environment, and social-driven challenges.

Dr. Srichattra Chaivongvilan, Strategist1 at the APEC CTF, presented the progresses of three projects approved by PPSTI during the meeting:
- APEC Energy Transition Towards Net Zero: Foresight Scenarios and Policy Impact
- Comparative Analysis and Foresight of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) in APEC
- Identification of Emerging Signals Affecting Carbon Neutrality in APEC Using Foresight
These projects received valuable feedback and are part of ongoing cooperation between researchers, academic institutions, and the private sector to develop appropriate policies at the regional level.
In addition, APEC CTF engaged in discussions with other Specialized Units within APEC to collaborate on developing high-impact projects that can provide significant benefits for APEC. The focus was on creating projects that address rapid developments in science, technology, and innovation, aiming to generate sustainable impacts in the long term.

Established in 1998, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF) is the first and only specialized unit of its kind in Thailand officially recognized by both APEC and the Thai government. The center focuses on using foresight tools to develop strategies and policies to address future challenges continuously.
