APEC CTF MEETS WITH IHI CORPORATION TO EXPLORE POTENTIAL HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGY COOPERATION

The Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) and the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), held a meeting with IHI Corporation from Japan to exchange information and explore collaboration opportunities in the development of hydrogen energy technology and innovation.

On December 18, 2024, the meeting, led by Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Senior Strategist, NXPO – APEC CTF, and Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaibool, Deputy Director of APEC CTF, were involved in discussions with senior executives from IHI Corporation. The meeting presented the policies on alternative energy, emphasizing the role of hydrogen energy, along with strategies and future goals.

Assoc. Prof. Wongkot highlighted the role of NXPO in driving greenhouse gas reduction initiatives through mechanisms under the Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (HESRI) framework, such as technology transfer and collaborative research with universities and research institutions. He also underscored the industrial sector’s demand for innovative technologies to accelerate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, both at the sectoral and national levels.

IHI Corporation, a leading industrial technology company in Japan with over 160 years of experience, has expertise in developing products such as automated logistics systems, compressors, and greenhouse gas reduction technologies. The company is also recognized as a pioneer in eco-friendly and human-friendly transportation solutions in Japan.

The collaboration aims to support the development of hydrogen energy technology in Thailand, playing a key role in driving greenhouse gas reduction efforts and contributing to national and global sustainability goals.
