On 10–11 March 2026, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF) was invited to serve as speakers at a workshop on the preparation of the Draft National Security Policy and Plan (2028–2032), hosted by the National Security Council, held at Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam in Bangkok.

The workshop featured a discussion on “Foresight for Developing the New National Security Policy.” The session was led by Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaiboon, Deputy Director of APEC CTF, together with his team, who shared their knowledge and experience in strategic policy design.

In addition, participants engaged in brainstorming, exchanged recommendations, and shared key information for the design and development of the Draft National Security Policy and Plan (2028–2032) under the designated policy framework. The workshop systematically applied a range of foresight for strategic policy design tools. These tools contributed to the development of national security policy and laid an important foundation for a new draft national policy and plan that is effective, precise, and responsive to the evolving security landscape.

On January 29, 2025, The Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) and the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), led by Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, President of NXPO and Executive Director of APEC CTF, welcomed executives and participants from the Secretariat of the Senate. This visit was part of the Senate’s capacity-building program for legislative personnel, focusing on “Strategic Foresight for Future Planning.”

Dr. Surachai introduced the role and responsibilities of the NXPO Office and discussed the APEC CTF’s role in utilizing foresight tools to drive future-focused strategies.

Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Vice President of NXPO and Senior Strategist of APEC CTF, outlined the five key national goals the office is working towards, including enhancing the country’s competitiveness, reducing inequality through innovation, supporting greenhouse gas reduction, developing a skilled workforce, and improving the global standing of Thai universities. These efforts align with national objectives, such as developing a self-sufficient and competitive economy, promoting social and environmental sustainability, and meeting industry needs.

Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaibool, Deputy Director of APEC CTF, elaborated on how foresight tools can be used in policymaking and long-term planning. These tools help governments and organizations adapt to future uncertainties by anticipating various scenarios and developing strategies accordingly.

The visit included a hands-on demonstration of foresight methods, CLA, allowing the Senate visitors to participate in activities aimed at decoding organizational challenges and enhancing their understanding of how foresight can be integrated into decision-making and strategic planning.

On July 30-31, 2024, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), Office of the National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) collaborated with the Strategic Transformation Office (STO), which was designated by the Prime Minister as the key agency driving the soft power development strategy, to organize a workshop at the Arize Hotel, Sriracha. The workshop, titled “Foresight Tools for Strategic Communication and Public Relations in Soft Power Policy” aimed to develop strategic guidelines for advancing soft power communication.

The event brought together stakeholders from the National Soft Power Development Committee and various sectors. The opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, Executive Director of APEC CTF and Senior Strategist at NXPO, who emphasized the importance of foresight in addressing future challenges.

The workshop was led by Dr. Kommate Jitvanichpaiboon, Deputy Director of APEC CTF. Dr. Kommate highlighted that the workshop serves as an effective way to synergize the efforts of various sectors under the soft power committee. He emphasized the importance of understanding how each industry can assist one another in communicating both within and across sectors to maximize mutual benefits.

Dr. Kommate noted, “The impact of soft power is not just in cultural influence but also in economic value. By improving our communication strategies, we can create added value and generate more revenue for producers, ultimately benefiting the entire economy.”

Participants engaged in envisioning the future of soft power, identifying pain points, and proposing solutions to enhance the effectiveness of soft power communication. The aim was to ensure not only that the public understands these initiatives but also to improve the government’s ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

On July 25, 2024, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (CTF) organized a workshop at Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, specifically targeting the Faculty of Engineering. The workshop, titled “Developing Strategic Recommendations for the Next 10 Years,” aimed to set a clear vision and introduce methods for developing programs and projects for the next decade.

The event brought together stakeholders from the engineering faculty at KU Bangkhen.

Led by Dr. Sujin Poonboon – Policy Developer – APEC CTF, the project manager of this initiative introduced tools to prioritize projects within the portfolio, ensuring practical application and alignment with the overall goals set during the workshop. These tools were demonstrated through pilot projects, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of aligning projects with strategic goals and drivers to achieve high-value prioritization.

The workshop concluded successfully, building on the initial ten-year planning and offering insights on how to put these plans into practice for the future development of the Faculty of Engineering at KU Bangkhen.

Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, Executive Director of APEC CTF and Senior Strategist of NXPO emphasized the importance of foresight tools in strategic planning, particularly in today’s dynamic environment characterized by evolving trends and drivers. He expressed hope that the workshop would assist KU in maintaining its momentum toward future growth.
